Sir Francis Drake was born in about 1541 in Tavistock, Devon. Drake went on to become on of the most famous men in Elizabethan times.

He is probably most famous for sailing around the world and for fighting the Spanish Armada in 1588.

He died in January 1596 aboard the Defiance, of dysentery aged about 55.
